My Story

The beginning
On September 28th, 2024, I was introduced to pottery on a special date celebrating my two year anniversary with my partner (photos are from that very class). It's something I really hoped I would enjoy. But, I didn't just enjoy it, I fell in love. Something clicked. I felt grounded, present, and in tune with the clay. I was able to center the clay with relative ease, which impressed our instructor and it impressed me too. I don't typically think of myself as someone who has things come easy to me, so I knew I had to pursue pottery. Immediately after this class, I signed up for a 6 week pottery course at the same studio to refine my skills. That flew by, and I knew I'd need to continue somehow. Thankfully, that studio offered a membership where I would get 12.5 lbs of clay a month and a space for community. I fell in love with the space, especially with the wonderful, creative women that I got to know every Thursday evening. However, once a week was not cutting it anymore! I stayed up at night thinking about what I might make and how I might glaze my creations. I knew I had to have more access to pottery.
After nights of contemplating, I decided to invest in a wheel for my home and began setting up my home studio space using some other craft skills like carpentry to build my own pottery work table. I got the studio all set up and waited...and waited...and waited. Pottery wheels are in high demand and have long delays, it turns out. Finally, after two months of impatiently waiting, I got my wheel! Now that I could make pottery at home, I still needed to fire it somewhere as I did not have the means or access to a space myself where I could set up a kiln. Thankfully, my pottery teacher was right in the process of setting up exactly what I needed at Ember & Bloom Studios. So, after a lot of purchases and another membership for kiln firing, I stepped back from my old membership at my first studio one year after I had my first pottery class to have a go at it on my own. I cannot believe how this passion has flourished in just one year, and I can't wait to see how I continue to grow with pottery. Thank you for reading my story, and I hope you find a piece you love!

My partner and I in our first class, celebrating our 2nd anniversary! I was so happy and excited that I was able to try a new hobby especially one I found to be so satisfying.

We each made 3 pieces on the wheel. Mine are the three closest in the photo in a line.

The final results! We still use all of our pieces from this date today!
